Labor Day Week-End

This week-end Chuck got to drive the bus for SAU and took the girl's volleyball team to Chicago. He left on Friday morning and the weather man was predicting rain and scattered thunder storms. I was a little uneasy about that, but trusted God would be with him there and back. Friday I spent the day catching up on things around the house. The girls and their families went over to our Church camp at Somerset Beach along with many of their friends from church. It is only about 20 miles from us. Saturday night when Chuck was coming home with the team, the storms came and their were warnings out for Somerset, Chicago and  all along the Indiana/Michigan boarder. I watched the facebook to see that everyone was ok. There were some dark skies and wind here, but it all went through pretty fast and Chuck managed to be in between storms and it didn't rain hard for him on the road. He got home fairly early. It did rain hard at the camp and a few people came home Sat. night to sleep in dry beds. Then they went back over for Sunday. It was quite nice on Sunday and we ended up going over to the camp for a few hours to sit around the campfire with everyone.

They had home made soup, baked cinnamon apples and banana boats. It was all so yummy. When we first got there Julie was face painting, the boys were playing a board game and some were getting the apples and bananas ready for tin foil wrapping and baking over the campfire grill. (see my recipe blog for recipes)

We got hugs from the kids and it was fun to share with everyone. There were over 30 in our group. It got a little chilly later on and I was glad that I brought my jacket. Jasmin tried snuggling with grandpa and Savannah sat on my lap. I can't quite hold her anymore. The campfire felt good and there were no mosquitoes. After a while we decided we better start home. We left around 9:30 but most everyone had campers or tents and stayed till Monday. We sure enjoy going out to camp and being with our girls and families and friends, another blessing of living in Jackson.

My neighbor next door decided to have a yard sale for the week-end and it began on Thursday. Julie dropped the kids off to stay with me when she went to get her hair cut that day. When the kids saw the sale they all wanted to go over to see what they had. Max even had $4 in change to spend. We didn't find a whole lot for kids but I did see some tea cups and saucers that would be good for our up-coming tea party for the grandkids. Most of the summer was too hot to have one on the deck, so we are planning it, before long, this fall.
Bargain I found at the yard sale: 5 pretty tea cups and saucers (bone china) for our tea party
I only brought over a couple dollars so I borrowed some from Max to get all 5 cups and saucers for $3. The kids seemed satisfied about the purchase.
