The Joys Of Being A Senior Citizen

Recently I had lunch with my college roommate who lives a few miles from me. We have been friends since the 50's and both from Toledo, my home town. We had fun sharing memories together and I am reminded how God had blessed me, over the years, with wonderful friends. We were discussing family and I caught some of her thinking and remembered how I used to think, being raised in Toledo, a very Democratic city. We touched a bit on politics and then quickly got on a different subject. She sounded like my parents, a little, and their inhibited ways of thinking. The unions influenced their thinking and then of course it was the 50's. It took me nearly 15 yrs.to change my thinking and learn to trust people for who they were and enjoy friendships. Of course, my husband was at the top of the list to help me with this. I have met some wonderful people, over the years, as we served the Lord in Ministry. Belonging to Christ and the church has meant everything to me. The church people cared for me when my folks were going through hard times and their marriage was breaking apart. In spite of that I survived and flourished in the care of Christian  people and the power of the Holy Spirit in my life. It has just been a blessing. My friend reminded me of the roots I had being raised in Toledo and in the wonderful care of the church family. It is a joy to renew our friendship. She goes to the same church, here in Spring Arbor, that I do. Hoping to take a little more time together, growing and renewing our friendship, this year.

This week, I am focusing on health care. The last doctor's appointment brought attention to the fact that I need a colonoscopy. I get one every 3 yrs. So, tonight, I am drinking that awful stuff and trying to get ready for my test tomorrow. Fun, fun!!!  My dad had colon cancer and my mother had ovarian cancer which meant that some of the colon had to be removed for dad and an ovary removed for my mom. It is just a given for my good health, then, that I get checked periodically.

Chuck got back Sunday night around 8PM. Then has had today, Mon., to rest up and goes first thing Tues. morning to Cincinnati with the SAU girls soccer team.  They tied their last game with Lindsey Wilson a team who ranked 6th, SA ranking 19th. They are pumped, so hope to win and Chuck will be cheering them on. He says he doesn't think he'll get back till 2-3am. So his job keeps him hopping. He even took a nap this afternoon. Very rare for him. The trips were 8-9 hr. driving time. He so enjoys sharing with the coaches, so driving the Cougar bus for SAU is not a hard job, really.

To let you know, there will be no pictures with this posting. My main computer shut down with a blue screen. All my data and pictures are on it. Meanwhile I am typing on our mini-laptop. I called my son-in-law to get advice and he said it was the bsod, (blue screen of death). So very serious. Today I took my cpu to the computer store to get fixed. It may be my hard drive or a couple other things. Please pray that I don't lose everything. Sam and Julie will be out of town a week and then when they get back it will be Staff retreat, so he can't fix it for 2 wks.. So that is the "jist" of it. Well I'm off to drink my second round of Lemon Citrus Cocktail...... The joys of being a SC. (senior citizen)!!!!
